Typically occurring in the third act, a grand gesture is known to be a common plotting point in romance stories where the hero does something bold or gives up something big in order to show the heroine that their love is true.
Portland’s third black-owned bookstore, and first ever romance bookstore, I was thrilled to work with my friend Kat to help bring her dream of Grand Gesture Books come to life.
This logo brings the idea of the grand gesture to life as a bouquet erupts from the book at the third act, or about two-thirds of the way through. The typeface elicits both the tradition of romance novels like Pride & Prejudice, and the modern direction of 21st century romance.
